About
My areas of interest are a reflection of my education: law and philosophy. My main concerns are the relationship between these two disciplines, how and to what extent one can be helpful to the other. In recent research, I have tried to show how philosophy can benefit from the law, through the justification of their institutes, and how the law can benefit from philosophy, through concrete examples that enrich the range of phenomena about which philosophy address. On the other hand, it is important to mark the distinction between these two subjects-matter, otherwise philosophy may become dogmatic or law would not to be able to offer a decision and stabilize social relations.
I am currently completing a masters degree in philosophy at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. My research focuses on "moral luck", a theme introduced in philosophy by Bernard Williams. One aspect of my work is the conceptual analysis of the expression, verifying its theoretical plausibility. Another aspect is how it can shed light on features of our moral life, such as tragic dilemmas and the human vulnerability when faced with chance and contingency. Finally, I study the impact of the concept over torts and criminal law, particularly its relation to strict liability and different punishments for attempted and accomplished crimes.
